KUALA LUMPUR: As of 8 am on Sunday, December 15, the flood situation in Johor and Pahang remains stable, with the number of evacuees holding steady at 47 individuals seeking refuge at temporary relief centres. In Johor, the situation persists with 36 victims from 11 families taking shelter at the relief centre located in Balai Raya Kampung Batu Badak, situated in the Segamat district. Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani, the chairman of the Johor State Disaster Management Committee, highlighted that the water level at the Sungai Muar station in Buloh Kasap, Segamat, has surpassed the warning threshold, currently recorded at 8.80 meters. This elevation in water level raises concerns for local residents, as it poses potential risks for further flooding in the area. Meanwhile, other rivers in Johor, such as Sungai Paya Dato in Mersing at 1.45 meters and Sungai Muar at Jeti Kampung Tekam in Segamat at 3.30 meters, are holding steady at alert levels, suggesting that while conditions are concerning, they are not yet critical. Dr Azmi noted that weather forecasts predict clear skies across nine districts in Johor, with the exception of Mersing, which is expected to experience cloudy conditions. In Pahang, the flood has affected a smaller group, with 11 individuals from four families currently sheltered at Balairaya Kampung Baru Pertanian in the Maran district. According to the latest updates from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage via the Public Info Banjir portal, the Sungai Pahang at Lubuk Paku in Maran is the only significant river in the state that has exceeded the warning level, currently standing at 18.57 meters. As the situation develops, local authorities continue to monitor the water levels and provide necessary support to the affected families. Community leaders and disaster management teams are on high alert to ensure the safety and well-being of those impacted by the floods, as they prepare for any further adjustments needed in response to changing weather conditions.
