In a heartwarming demonstration of community spirit, a collaborative effort between a local cinema chain and a care company in Winchester has raised nearly £1,000 to support dementia care. Home Instead Central Hampshire (HICH), in partnership with Dementia-Friendly Winchester and Everyman Cinema, successfully garnered £844.85, which will directly benefit initiatives aimed at enhancing the lives of those living with dementia. The funds raised will bolster the Dementia-Friendly Morning Matinees, a cherished monthly event at the Everyman cinema. These screenings have quickly become a cornerstone of the local community, offering a safe and engaging environment for individuals with dementia, along with their families and caregivers. General Manager of HICH, Melissa Burnett, emphasized the importance of creating a dementia-friendly atmosphere. “Creating a dementia-friendly community is a core part of our mission at Home Instead Central Hampshire. We are proud to partner with Dementia-Friendly Hampshire and Everyman Winchester to provide this valuable initiative,” she stated. The morning matinees take place on the first Wednesday of every month, featuring carefully chosen films designed to evoke joy and nostalgia. Adjustments, such as low lighting and moderated sound levels, ensure that attendees enjoy a comfortable and relaxed viewing experience. As HICH noted, these events allow participants to momentarily step away from their daily routines, share in collective enjoyment, and strengthen family bonds through the magic of cinema. The next screening is set for January 8, featuring the classic film "On the Town" (1949). Doors will open at 10:15 AM, with the film commencing at 10:45 AM. Attendees can expect complimentary refreshments, including tea, coffee, and popcorn, making for a delightful outing. Home Instead Central Hampshire is dedicated to providing comprehensive dementia care, offering a variety of services that reflect their commitment to supporting the local community. In addition to the matinees, HICH runs various dementia-friendly activity groups, including the popular "Singing for the Brain" program. Their recent 'Be a Santa to a Senior' campaign successfully collected gifts for elderly residents at assisted living homes Matilda Place and Danemark Court in Winchester. For those interested in attending the upcoming film screening or learning more about the initiatives, they can call 01962 736681 or email [email protected]. Further updates are also available through HICH’s social media platforms. The ongoing success of these events highlights the resilience and generosity of the Winchester community, coming together to support those affected by dementia.
