In a significant humanitarian effort, Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) recently organized artificial limb camps for individuals affected by endosulfan exposure in the Puttur and Belthangady regions. The initiative, carried out in collaboration with the Jaipur Foot organization and with support from the Dakshina Kannada District Health Department, provided much-needed assistance to those whose lives have been deeply impacted by the harmful effects of this pesticide. The camps, held on December 18 and 19 in Puttur, and on December 20 in Belthangady, saw the distribution of artificial limbs to a total of 72 beneficiaries. This initiative, part of MRPL’s Arogya Samrakshan Scheme, was funded with a budget of ₹12 lakh, underlining the company’s commitment to improving the quality of life for those affected by health crises stemming from environmental factors. Krishna Hegde Miyar, MRPL’s Chief General Manager (HR), spoke about the company's dedication to corporate social responsibility, emphasizing the need to give back to the communities they serve. "This artificial limb camp reflects our commitment to addressing pressing social issues and enhancing the quality of life for the most vulnerable," he stated. The emotional impact of the camp was palpable, with beneficiaries and their families expressing profound gratitude for the life-altering assistance provided. The event not only aimed at physical rehabilitation but also served as a beacon of hope for those who have endured significant challenges due to their disabilities. The provision of artificial limbs represents a step towards restoring independence and mobility, fostering a sense of normalcy and renewed possibility for the recipients. The camps have been hailed as a pivotal intervention for many, highlighting the importance of corporate initiatives in addressing public health concerns and social welfare. MRPL's ongoing commitment to such programs indicates a broader understanding of the role that corporations can play in fostering community well-being. In addition to the artificial limb initiative, MRPL has also made strides in enhancing local healthcare by donating 64 ECG machines to Primary Health Centres and Namma Clinics in Dakshina Kannada, further reinforcing its dedication to health improvements in the region. As the impact of these initiatives unfolds, they stand as a testament to the collaborative efforts of corporate entities, healthcare organizations, and community support systems in transforming lives and providing hope for a better future.
