In a heartwarming initiative that has brought joy to many, the Standing Tall Foundation, a charity based in St Helens and spearheaded by war veteran Andy Reid, has successfully delivered 1,500 Christmas presents to vulnerable families in the borough. This generous outreach aims to ensure that those facing the greatest need have something special to unwrap on Christmas Day. The presents will be distributed across 50 schools and among homeless families, emphasizing the foundation's commitment to addressing the needs of the most disadvantaged members of the community. Since its inception in 2020, the Standing Tall Foundation has been focused on community well-being, providing a variety of essential services including counselling, housing support, and physical activity initiatives designed to promote mental and physical health. In addition to its ongoing work, which aids individuals facing financial hardships, the foundation's Christmas initiative has garnered support from volunteers who wrapped, packed, and delivered the gifts. A dedicated team from the St Helens town centre regeneration project, coordinated by VINCI Building, played a significant role in making this initiative a success. The regeneration project is a collaborative effort involving St Helens Borough Council and the ECF, a partnership that includes Homes England, Legal & General, and Muse. Charlie Eke, executive officer at the Standing Tall Foundation, expressed gratitude towards the volunteers, stating, "At the foundation, we're dedicated to providing for those who have the least in St Helens, especially at this time of year where hardship is often felt the most." He highlighted the importance of community support in making the Christmas effort a remarkable success. Councillor Richard McCauley, cabinet member for inclusive growth and regeneration at St Helens Borough Council, echoed this sentiment, recognizing the vital role of social responsibility during the festive season. "We are so often reminded at this time of year of our duty to support our communities' most vulnerable constituents in whatever way we can," he said. He praised the Standing Tall Foundation for exemplifying social value within the community and expressed his satisfaction with the town centre project team's involvement in such a meaningful initiative. As the holiday season progresses, the Standing Tall Foundation continues to invite those interested in contributing to their efforts to reach out at [email protected]. This initiative not only highlights the spirit of giving but also the importance of community solidarity in ensuring that everyone has a reason to celebrate this Christmas.
