In a heartwarming initiative aimed at bolstering mental health support in the Bridport community, the local branch of the southwest law firm Porter Dodson has stepped forward with a generous donation to the Harmony Centre. This contribution, a cheque for £500, was presented in recognition of the centre being named the firm’s charity of the year. The partnership between Porter Dodson and the Harmony Centre is set to extend beyond financial support. The law firm has pledged to engage in fundraising and volunteering efforts throughout the year, including sponsorship of a live music evening scheduled for February. This event will not only raise additional funds but also foster community spirit while highlighting the crucial work being done by the Harmony Centre. Alison Cliffe, a trustee of the Harmony Centre, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support received from the law firm. "We are extremely grateful for all the input and support Porter Dodson solicitors and staff have given to The Harmony Centre and improving mental health and wellbeing in the Bridport area," Cliffe remarked. She noted the positive relationships formed between the two organizations, emphasizing the law firm’s commitment to making a difference in the local community. Paul Watkins, a solicitor at Porter Dodson, elaborated on the firm’s decision to support the Harmony Centre, stating that each year they select a local charity to champion. "For 2024, we selected The Harmony Centre because we wanted to support a local charity that has, and will continue to have, a major impact on the local Bridport community and beyond," Watkins explained. His enthusiasm was fueled by the experiences of a team member who had volunteered with Harmony and witnessed the vital services provided first-hand. The Harmony Centre stands out for its diverse range of services, which are designed to be accessible to everyone in the community. The firm’s decision to lend their support was unanimous, as they recognized the importance of improving mental health and well-being for all individuals. Beyond the initial donation, Porter Dodson is committed to raising funds for Harmony until the end of the financial year in April 2025, with further fundraising activities in the works. Rachel Coney, Chair of Trustees for the Harmony Centre, acknowledged the essential role that local businesses like Porter Dodson play in sustaining their operations. She highlighted that 2024 marks a significant milestone, celebrating the centre’s 10th anniversary and its relocation to larger premises. The funds raised will be invaluable for acquiring additional equipment to enhance the services offered at the newly established Harmony Centre located on St Michael's Trading Estate in Bridport. The Harmony Centre is dedicated to supporting the mental health needs of the community, providing a wide array of services including friendly advice, free weekly activities, and crisis support through its Community Front Room service. Each year, the centre assists hundreds of local residents, reinforcing the importance of community-based mental health services.
