A devastating fire engulfed a three-storey building in the Campierganj area of Gorakhpur late Sunday night, resulting in significant destruction and financial losses for local business owners. The incident, which officials estimate caused damages amounting to at least Rs 25 lakh, has left the community in shock and mourning over the loss of livelihoods. According to reports, the fire began in a jewellery store located on the ground floor, where smoke was first detected. Witnesses described a swift escalation as the flames spread rapidly throughout the building, which also housed a garments showroom and a warehouse. Local residents rushed to extinguish the fire, but their attempts were in vain. In a frantic bid to manage the situation, they alerted police and firefighters, who arrived on the scene to assist in rescue efforts. Authorities reported that the fire was brought under control after an intense two-hour operation, which involved significant coordination between the police and fire services. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported; however, one police constable, Vivek Kumar, sustained injuries during the rescue operations. Subdivisional magistrate Rohit Maurya, alongside other officials, visited the site to assess the damage and provide support to the affected business owners. The Saraf brothers, who own the building, are now faced with the daunting task of rebuilding not only their physical structure but also their businesses, which have been completely devastated. While the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, a thorough investigation has been launched to determine what led to this unfortunate incident. Local authorities are expected to provide assistance to those impacted, ensuring that the community can gradually recover from this catastrophic event. As the investigation unfolds, the local community comes together to lend support to those who have lost their businesses, reflecting the resilience and solidarity that often emerges in the face of adversity.
