At a ceremony held at the Garden Embassy of the El Embajador hotel, a collaboration agreement in the healthcare sector was signed between Montefiore Einstein, Umbrella, and the Yunén Medical Group. This agreement aims to improve access to healthcare services for Dominican patients, who previously had to travel to the United States in search of specialized treatments or second medical opinions. The ceremony was led by prominent figures from the medical and business fields, including Dr. Mario García, head of the Cardiology Division at Montefiore Medical Center; Dr. Peter Semczuk, executive vice president of Montefiore; José Yunén, president of the Yunén Group; Víctor Oscar Pacheco, CEO of the VOPM Group; Irene Gebrael, vice president of the Montefiore health system; and Geleny Ramos, representative of Umbrella. They all agreed on the importance and positive impact this alliance will have on public health in the Dominican Republic. Dr. Gebrael emphasized that, despite being a small country, the Dominican Republic faces multiple challenges in its healthcare system, which Montefiore is equipped to address while sharing its patient-centered care philosophy. "Every year, we receive between 50 and 60 Dominican families coming to Montefiore seeking medical assistance. This year, we have placed a particular focus on understanding the needs of the cardiology sector," the doctor explained. The agreement not only facilitates access to healthcare but also promotes smoother communication between doctors in both countries. This is made possible by the integration of Umbrella, which provides assistance in medical insurance coverage, allowing patients to receive quality care without bearing the exorbitant costs of traveling abroad. Dr. Semczuk stressed that Montefiore has become a medical referral center for the Dominican community in the United States, being the largest provider of health services for this population group. "For years, we have understood the needs of Dominican patients. Now, with this agreement, they will have more direct access to health services from the Dominican Republic, including advancements in cancer treatments," he affirmed. The alliance represents a significant advancement in healthcare, allowing Dominican patients to receive quality care in their country without the need to travel. This is especially relevant at a time when globalization and international mobility are transforming the way healthcare services are delivered. In turn, José Yunén emphasized that this agreement is an important step towards improving healthcare in both the United States and the Dominican Republic. "The collaboration between our medical teams will enable patients to receive more efficient diagnoses and treatments, which is crucial for improving the quality of life of our population," he indicated. This agreement also has the potential to boost the development of the healthcare sector in the Dominican Republic by establishing a model of cooperation that can be replicated with other institutions and organizations in the future. The possibility of accessing cutting-edge medical innovations and technologies is an aspect that should not be underestimated in the context of a healthcare system facing increasing challenges. Finally, the signing of this agreement between Montefiore Einstein, Umbrella, and the Yunén Medical Group marks a new chapter in the healthcare of Dominicans, uniting efforts to ensure that the health and well-being of the population are at the center of the agenda. The hope is that this collaboration will not only improve access to medical services but also drive positive transformation in the country's healthcare system.
