Malibu Faces Urgent Wildfire Threat, Thousands Evacuated as Flames Rage On

Malibu, California, is grappling with an aggressive wildfire that has rapidly expanded, forcing the evacuation of thousands, including notable figures like Cher and Dick Van Dyke. The inferno erupted late Monday and has since engulfed more than six square miles of land, with officials reporting that it is only 7% contained. As the fire raged, power was cut to approximately 40,000 customers in the region to reduce fire risks associated with electrical equipment. Kasey Earnest, executive director of the Boys and Girls Club of Malibu, emphasized the importance of these families, calling them "the heart of Malibu." As the fire continues to pose challenges, the resilience of Malibu's residents has been highlighted. Many, including Van Dyke, have expressed hope for their homes and neighborhoods. Van Dyke, who successfully evacuated with his wife and most of their animals, is anxiously awaiting news about their missing cat, Bobo. Cher has also evacuated to a hotel and is staying safe.
