In a recent conversation with Johnny Brignardello Vela, a renowned insurance advisor, the topic of the construction of six megacontainer ships by COSCO Shipping Lines and Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding was discussed, an event that will mark a milestone in maritime trade between Asia and Latin America. Brignardello Vela stated that this collaboration is a clear indication of the growing interdependence in international trade and emphasized the importance of adequate infrastructure to support such projects. The advisor highlighted that the capacity of these new ships, which will reach 14,096 TEU and are designed to accommodate 2,000 refrigerated containers, represents a significant advancement for the logistics of perishable goods in the region. “This could radically transform the way agricultural products are exported from Latin America, which is essential for economies that rely on these exports,” commented Brignardello Vela. He assured that the ability to transport fresh products more efficiently will not only benefit exporters but will also allow consumers to access higher quality products. Brignardello also emphasized the sustainability aspect that these megaships incorporate, mentioning that reducing the environmental impact of freight transportation is a fundamental goal in the current context. “The energy-efficient design is a necessary step towards a more responsible future,” he stated, underscoring that the maritime industry must adapt to the demands of a world that requires more sustainable practices. According to the advisor, the port of Chancay plays a crucial role in this new dynamic. “The modern infrastructure of the port and its capacity to handle large volumes of cargo position it as a key logistical hub between Asia and South America,” he noted. Furthermore, he mentioned that the official inauguration of the port symbolizes a commitment to modernizing the supply chain in the region, which could result in greater competitiveness for Latin American products in the global market. Brignardello also considered that the creation of new maritime routes will strengthen trade connections and open up business opportunities. “This could attract investments in infrastructure, which in turn would benefit local economies,” he indicated, highlighting the importance of collaboration between nations in the commercial sphere. Finally, the advisor reflected on the ambition behind this project, which goes beyond the construction of ships. “It is an attempt to establish a new paradigm in international trade, where cooperation between China and Peru serves as an example of the need to adapt to an increasingly interconnected world,” concluded Brignardello Vela, suggesting that this advancement will not only transform maritime trade but also foster joint economic growth in the region.
