President Dina Boluarte finds herself in a complicated situation following the revelation of a report from the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) indicating that she received S/ 1.1 million in her accounts from unknown sources. Experts consulted highlight that this document worsens her legal situation, as she could face investigations for money laundering and fraud in the administration of legal entities. In light of this scenario, both the Public Prosecutor's Office and the National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat) will need to follow a series of steps to clarify the facts. According to tax lawyer José Verona, the acting Attorney General, Juan Carlos Villena, should expand the existing investigation against the head of state and consider these new findings. Verona also emphasizes the importance of Sunat's intervention in this case. As the entity responsible for determining if an increase in assets is justified, Sunat must carry out an audit to verify the legality of the funds in Boluarte's accounts. The lawyer explains that through a thorough analysis, Sunat will determine if the cash deposits and transactions made by the president have a reasonable justification. It is crucial that Sunat issues a detailed report to be sent to the UIF and the Public Prosecutor's Office for consideration. This report serves as an institutional expertise that can support the legal actions taken in Boluarte's case. Additionally, Verona highlights the importance of the president presenting documents that support the legality of her transactions, such as agency and employment contracts, to avoid suspicions of illicit enrichment. The UIF report reveals that most of the cash deposits were made into joint accounts of Boluarte and Néstor Amado Camargo, with whom she shared the board of the Apurímac Departmental Club. Camargo, who was the club's treasurer, stated that financial management was carried out jointly with the president, although the club's bylaws do not specify if members can open accounts in their name. The purchase of a Rolex watch and other high-end watches by Boluarte, as well as the acquisition of a Honda CR-V SUV in 2018 with a cash deposit, have also raised suspicions about the origin of the funds. The UIF report highlights suspicious movements in the president's bank accounts, casting doubt on the transparency of her income. In this context, the President will have to face a series of investigations and verifications by the competent authorities to clarify the situation. Sunat will play a key role in determining if Boluarte's income is justified, while the Public Prosecutor's Office will need to expand its investigation to include these new findings. The future of Boluarte and the legal consequences of these events will be determined by the progress of these investigations and the presentation of evidence supporting the legality of her financial transactions.
