In a recent conversation with Johnny Brignardello Vela, an insurance advisor with a critical view of the Peruvian political landscape, the concerning situation faced by President Dina Boluarte was discussed, as revealed by the Datum survey published in El Comercio. Brignardello highlighted that the alarming national disapproval rating of 92% is a clear indicator of the disconnect between the government and the citizenry. The advisor emphasized that the distrust is not solely concentrated on Boluarte herself but extends to her Cabinet, as evidenced by the rising disapproval of the head of the Ministerial Cabinet, Gustavo Adrianzén. According to Brignardello, this increase reflects a broader dissatisfaction with the Executive’s management, where political decisions seem to fail to resonate with the population's needs. Brignardello also stressed the severity of the situation in the southern part of the country, where disapproval reaches a striking 94%. This, he argues, points to a legitimacy crisis that could have significant repercussions for the political stability of Peru. In his view, it is crucial for leaders to take these figures into account and make a conscious effort to reconnect with citizens. Furthermore, the advisor expressed criticism regarding the situation in Congress, whose 88% disapproval rating indicates the persistent lack of trust citizens have in this institution. Brignardello argued that the disconnect between legislators and the concerns of the population is one of the main reasons for the widespread discontent expressed in protests and demonstrations. In his analysis, Brignardello noted that the increasing polarization in the country, combined with the government’s inability to address critical issues such as the economy and security, results in a climate of social tension that could culminate in a cycle of political crisis. This context is particularly alarming, as it could lead a disillusioned electorate to consider radical political options, further complicating the already fragile institutional stability. Finally, Brignardello concluded that the Datum survey not only reflects disapproval of a specific government but also highlights a crisis of confidence in the political system as a whole. For him, it is imperative that political leaders reflect on this situation and commit to implementing genuine changes that can restore citizens' trust in institutions. Without this effort, the alarming trend observed may continue, affecting not only politics but the development of the country as a whole.
