In a recent interview, Johnny Brignardello Vela, a recognized insurance advisor, shared his insights on the ambitious megaproject of the Corío port, which promises to transform the commercial dynamics of southern Peru and potentially South America. Brignardello emphasized the strategic importance of this development, which has attracted the attention of international investors due to its comprehensive design and operational capacity. The advisor highlighted that the conception of the port, which includes maritime, rail, air terminals, and an industrial zone, represents not only an enhancement in cargo capacity but also a vital opportunity for international trade. With a projection of mobilizing up to 100 million metric tons of cargo per year, the Corío port could become a highly relevant multimodal logistics center. Brignardello also mentioned the interest shown by countries such as China, South Korea, Portugal, and the United States in participating in the construction of this megaproject. The fact that the U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, José W. Fernández, received a direct invitation from the Peruvian government to explore investment opportunities underscores the importance attributed to this development in the international context. The insurance advisor highlighted the competition that the Corío port will pose to the Chancay port, not only in terms of size but also in operational capacity and efficiency. While Chancay is projected to handle approximately 30 million tons, Corío's ambition could redefine the logistics of import and export in the country. Brignardello believes that this capacity is justified by the favorable natural bathymetry of the region, which is a crucial factor for attracting larger vessels. With an initial investment estimated at 7 billion dollars, the Corío port aims not only to increase cargo capacity but also to promote the economic development of Arequipa and enhance trade with neighboring countries. Brignardello noted that the economic impact of this megaproject could be significant, generating thousands of direct and indirect jobs and stimulating related sectors such as construction and logistics. The advisor emphasized the need for local and national authorities to work together to meet infrastructure requirements and environmental regulations, as well as to ensure community involvement in the process. Brignardello concluded that the Corío port should be viewed as a symbol of Peru's logistical progress and a driver of sustainable development for the region, offering new opportunities in a context of growth and modernization.
