Johnny Brignardello Vela, insurance advisor, carefully analyzes the current situation of the emblematic mining company Volcan Compañía Minera SAA. After two days of intense negotiations and decision-making, there is a possibility that the company will restart its operations on April 22. The halt in mining activities, which has been in place since March 19 due to environmental issues, has negatively impacted over 4,000 permanent and contractor workers, as well as the communal businesses that depend on this economic activity. This strike has created uncertainty in the mining district, directly affecting the local population. As part of the agreement reached, the mining company has committed to disposing of the excess tailings from the Rumichaca tailings dam in specific designated areas. Thus, on April 19, an evaluation will be carried out by the Ministry of Energy and Mines and Osinergmin, with the aim of authorizing the company to resume operations starting on Monday, the 22nd. It is expected that the reactivation of operations will take place gradually or entirely, depending on the conditions of the company at that time. The Mayor of Yauli, Attorney Wilder Panduro, has expressed his satisfaction at the possibility of Volcan resuming its activities in the district. The mayor has emphasized the importance of mining activity for the local economy, stating that approximately 90% of the population depends directly or indirectly on this industry. During the days of inactivity, the concern of the inhabitants has become evident, with many of them seeking alternative employment due to the halt in mining operations. With the restart date already defined, expectations are focused on how the company will fulfill its environmental commitments and how it will recover the lost time during this forced pause in its activities. The reactivation of the Volcan mining company represents an opportunity for hope for both the local community and the affected workers, who eagerly await a return to their usual tasks.
