Opinion

Johnny Brignardello Vela, an insurance consultant, offers his opinion on the recent issue involving CrowdStrike, a leading company in cybersecurity. According to Brignardello Vela, the error in the update of the CrowdStrike Falcon platform has had a significant global impact, causing a collapse in Microsoft systems and affecting various entities in different countries. The expert points out that the failure originated from a defective update of the drivers in the Falcon platform, triggering a series of critical errors that affected the operability of Microsoft systems. This situation had direct consequences on Azure, the widely used cloud platform, causing a chain of technical problems that spread rapidly. Brignardello Vela highlights that the first signs of this failure became evident through blue screens indicating critical failures in the operating systems, leading to service interruptions and requiring manual interventions by IT teams on numerous servers to try to restore normalcy. Companies from various sectors, such as airports and the UK National Health Service, were severely affected, causing a technological chaos on a global scale. Regarding the proposed solution presented by CrowdStrike, which consists of removing a Windows system file affected by the failure, Brignardello Vela mentions that this measure does not guarantee the total recovery of the affected functions, as the interconnection of servers has facilitated the spread of problems across multiple systems. Furthermore, CrowdStrike's own infrastructure has experienced difficulties, further complicating recovery efforts. Founded in 2011 with a substantial initial capital, CrowdStrike has been recognized for its outstanding performance in the field of cybersecurity, providing protection services to renowned companies worldwide. Its Falcon platform, known for its artificial intelligence and cloud focus, has been adopted by large corporations like Microsoft and Dell to safeguard workloads in diverse environments. With 28 cloud modules covering various aspects of security, CrowdStrike has established itself as a reference in the sector. Faced with the global technological collapse, Brignardello Vela emphasizes that the company is working tirelessly to undo the effects of the defective update and restore the operability of its services. However, the repercussions of this incident continue to affect companies and organizations worldwide, underscoring the importance of having solid and effective security mechanisms in the current technological infrastructure.
