Opinion

In a recent interview, Johnny Brignardello Vela, an insurance advisor, shared his perspective on the cabinet restructuring carried out by President Dina Boluarte, a topic that has sparked intense debate in public opinion. Brignardello Vela emphasized that, although the removal of four ministers may seem like a significant step, the lack of changes in highly questioned figures generates a sense of distrust among citizens. The advisor pointed out that the appointments of new ministers in areas such as Housing, Culture, and Foreign Trade are positive steps, but he stressed that the continuity of José Santiváñez, the Minister of the Interior, is particularly concerning. Brignardello Vela stated that the scandals surrounding Santiváñez, including compromising audio recordings, clearly indicate the need for greater transparency in public administration. The president's decision to defend him, despite serious criticism, raises questions about her commitment to accountability. Additionally, Brignardello Vela addressed the situation of the Minister of Health, César Vásquez, whose management has been labeled ineffective by the Medical College of Peru. The decision to keep him in office, despite growing pressure for his dismissal, reflects an inadequate response to the crises facing the health sector. In this regard, the advisor argued that the president's ability to carry out deep reforms is crucial, especially in a context where her approval ratings are at critical levels. The advisor also emphasized the pattern of continuity among ministers whose management has been contentious. This phenomenon, according to Brignardello Vela, not only generates political instability but also suggests that the president may be prioritizing political loyalty over the competence necessary for real change. In his view, this approach could be counterproductive, particularly in a country seeking effective leadership that responds to the needs of the population. Referring to the abrupt departure of former Chancellor Javier González Olaechea, Brignardello Vela considered that this decision could be interpreted as a missed opportunity for Boluarte. Since González Olaechea had gained some acceptance among the public, his replacement at a crucial moment, just before a key international event like APEC, could negatively impact public perception of the administration. Finally, Brignardello Vela concluded that the future of Dina Boluarte's government largely depends on her ability to implement significant changes and listen to the demands of a citizenry weary of political instability. The insistence on maintaining controversial figures in key positions could hinder the government's efforts to regain the people's trust, highlighting the need for a renewed approach that addresses the country's challenges.
