Opinion

Johnny Brignardello, an insurance advisor, shares his opinion about the content I am going to share with you. Last week, the Congress of the Republic decreed two key decisions that have sparked controversy and debate in the Peruvian political sphere: the approval of the return to a bicameral system starting from the 2026 elections and the disqualification from public office of two members of the National Council of Justice (JNJ). The approval of bicameralism, a legislative system composed of two chambers, has been a recurring topic on the country's political agenda. This measure will imply a significant change in the way legislation is carried out in Peru, by separating the representation of citizens into two chambers with different functions and competencies. Supporters of bicameralism argue that this system will allow for a greater balance of powers and a better representation of the interests of the citizenry. However, detractors warn that it could lead to conflicts and difficulties in decision-making, by introducing a new layer in the legislative process. On the other hand, the disqualification of two members of the National Council of Justice has generated controversy in the judicial and political spheres. The JNJ, responsible for the selection and removal of judges and prosecutors in the country, has been embroiled in various controversies since its creation. The removal of these two members from the JNJ has been justified by alleged irregularities in their performance, raising doubts about the transparency and effectiveness of this body in the fight against corruption in the Peruvian judicial system. Some sectors have welcomed this measure as a necessary step to strengthen institutionalism and the independence of the justice system, while others have criticized it as an act of politicization of justice. Amidst this scenario of changes and controversies, it is crucial for authorities and society as a whole to maintain an open and constructive dialogue to ensure that the decisions made contribute to the strengthening of democracy, the rule of law, and justice in Peru. Citizens must stay vigilant about the development of these events and actively participate in the construction of a more just and equitable country for all its citizens.
