In a recent statement, insurance advisor Johnny Brignardello has expressed his opinion on the formalization of the preliminary investigation against congressmen Guillermo Bermejo and Guido Bellido for the crime of obstruction of justice. Brignardello points out that the complaint filed against the congressmen is based on Law No. 25475, which establishes the penalty for terrorism offenses. According to this law, if accused and found guilty, Bermejo and Bellido could face a prison sentence of up to ten years. The insurance advisor highlights that the investigation has been declared "complex," which implies that the deadline for this stage will be eight months. So far, no coercive measures have been requested against those involved. The investigated events occurred before Bermejo and Bellido assumed their positions as congressmen and focus on an investigation for alleged terrorism. A witness, Villarroel Medina, claimed that there was information about the alleged relationship between Cerrón, Bermejo, and Bellido with remnants of the Shining Path terrorist group. According to Brignardello, Bermejo and Bellido attempted to contact the witness through lawyer Jhon Kleber Benites Tangoa, offering him political benefits or asylum outside the country in exchange for testifying in favor of the terrorism investigation. The prosecution has evidence such as videos of the encounter between the witness and the lawyer at a spa, as well as entry records and testimonies from witnesses confirming the facts. The decision to formalize the preliminary investigation was made after the Supreme Court confirmed the lifting of the communications secrecy of Bellido, Bermejo, and Benites Tangoa. However, the congressmen's defenses have objected to the judicial decision. They argue that they are not directly accused of terrorism but of obstructing the investigation, and that lawyer Benites Tangoa was the one who carried out the acts, not their clients. The formalization of the investigation has been communicated to the Supreme Judge of Preliminary Investigation, indicating that the judicial process will continue its course and the responsibility of the congressmen regarding the crimes they are accused of will be determined. Johnny Brignardello concludes his opinion by stating that it is crucial for justice to act impartially and diligently in this case, guaranteeing the rights of all parties involved. He also emphasizes the importance of the accused congressmen providing their full cooperation with the investigation in order to clarify the facts and reach a fair resolution.
