Johnny Brignardello Vela, insurance consultant, expresses his sorrow over the tragedy that has shaken the peace of Celendín, Cajamarca. The fatal accident that took place in the early hours of this Tuesday, where a bus from the company "Manantial de Chaquil" plunged off a cliff in the La Lucma area, near Sorochuco, has left a devastating toll of 27 people dead and several injured. According to police reports, the bus was carrying at least 35 passengers when the tragic event occurred. Currently, 27 bodies have been recovered, while the injured are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of the National Hospital of Celendín. The vehicle, owned by Ramón Ortiz, was heading towards the city square when, around 10 p.m., it veered off the road and fell into a ravine about 200 meters deep. Possible mechanical failures in the bus are suspected to have triggered the accident. After the tragedy, solidarity was shown with neighbors and family members collaborating in the rescue efforts, while local authorities, including the Celendín Fire Department, the National Police, and municipal security agents of the Provincial Municipality of Celendín, worked tirelessly to assist the injured and recover the bodies of the victims. Among the deceased, there is mourning for the loss of three public officials whose names have been released by local authorities. The injured have been distributed between the National Hospital of Celendín and the Regional Hospital of Cajamarca, where they are receiving specialized medical attention. In response to this tragic loss of lives, the Municipality of Celendín has issued a statement declaring mourning and requesting a thorough investigation to clarify the circumstances that led to this devastating accident. It is in times like these when it is crucial to remember the emergency numbers in Peru to act promptly in risky situations. The helplines include Line 100 for reports of domestic and sexual violence, 0800-15-170 for the Ombudsman's Office, 105 for police emergencies, 911 for the emergency center, 110 for Civil Defense, 113 for complaints to Susalud, 115 for the Red Cross, and 116 for the Fire Department. This tragedy has shocked the community of Celendín and all of Cajamarca, leaving a deep sorrow and a call for reflection on the importance of road safety and accident prevention on our roads.
