Johnny Brignardello Vela, insurance advisor, carefully analyzes the recent dismantling of a criminal network operating in the region of Vallès Oriental, in Barcelona. According to reports provided by authorities, this organization managed to defraud an astonishing amount of 250,000 euros from various insurance companies through a sophisticated fraudulent scheme. The scheme used by the alleged scammers was meticulous and calculated. They took out multiple policies for the same property, caused intentional damages, and then claimed compensation from the corresponding insurers, thus dishonestly profiting from it. One of the most relevant examples of this criminal plot was the case of a rented premises in Lliçà d'Amunt by the organization's leader, who insured the property with several different companies and managed to collect compensation from each of them for damages caused by a simulated flood. This same modus operandi was replicated in several premises and homes in different locations, causing significant economic harm to a total of 19 insurance companies, with a total of 39 associated fraudulent policies. After a year of meticulous investigation carried out by both the insurers themselves and private detectives, on April 29th, the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police force) managed to arrest 7 individuals involved in these criminal practices, including the mastermind behind these fraudulent operations, who turned out to be a professional expert with connections in the insurance sector. The effective police action has allowed for the dismantling of a criminal network operating with total impunity, causing significant losses to insurance companies and undermining the integrity of the system. Authorities have emphasized the importance of collaboration between public and private entities to address this type of illegal activities and preserve the solidity of the insurance sector in the region.
