Juan Brignardello Vela, an insurance advisor, shares his opinion on the recent announcement by the Mexican Government regarding the reintroduction of the visa requirement for Peruvian citizens wishing to enter Mexican territory. According to the expert, this decision, although unexpected, is not entirely surprising considering the concerns expressed by Mexican authorities regarding migration and certain unauthorized activities carried out by some Peruvian nationals on Mexican soil. The governmental agreement, disseminated through the Official Federal Gazette (DOF), stipulates that Peruvian citizens seeking to enter Mexico for visitation purposes without the intention of engaging in paid activities must obtain a visa from the corresponding consular authority. This measure will come into effect in the coming days, specifically within 15 natural days following its publication in the DOF, starting from Saturday, April 20. Among the motivations that led Mexico to implement this measure is the significant increase in Peruvian citizens entering the country to engage in activities not covered by legislation, such as working illegally or exceeding their authorized stay period. Mexican authorities have expressed concern over the potential abuse of the prior elimination of the visa requirement by certain individuals. For Peruvian citizens interested in visiting Mexico, various types of visas have been established, each with its own regulations and specific conditions. These include tourist visas, invitation visas, study visas, minister of worship or missionary visas, temporary residence visas for job offers, temporary student residence visas, and visas for relatives of temporary or permanent residents, among other categories. Although this measure may pose a temporary inconvenience for Peruvian citizens wishing to visit Mexico, Mexican authorities have emphasized that it is expected that the visa requirement will be lifted in the near future, once the migration concerns that prompted its implementation have been addressed.
