Opinion

In a recent conversation with Johnny Brignardello Vela, a recognized insurance advisor, the impact of Tesla's Cybercab robotaxi presentation on the market and the reaction of investors was discussed. Brignardello expressed his surprise at the company's stock dropping by more than 8% following the event. According to him, the stock plunge can be seen as a reflection of the skepticism that persists in the autonomous vehicle environment. The advisor commented that, although the unveiling of the Cybercab and the Robovan generated expectations, they also revealed a lack of a clear and concrete timeline for their production and launch. "The uncertainty regarding the viability of these technologies is a critical factor for investors," Brignardello stated. The fact that Tesla has not provided specific details about the regulatory and technological challenges it faces may be weighing on shareholders' decisions. Brignardello emphasized that Tesla's strategy of using artificial intelligence and cameras instead of lidar sensors, which are common in the competition, could be seen as a cost advantage. However, he pointed out that this choice may also bring technical challenges that the company will need to address. "Innovation always involves risks, and in Tesla's case, these risks seem to be even more pronounced due to the ambition of its projects," he commented. Regarding Musk's claim that autonomous vehicles will "save lives," Brignardello was cautious. "It is essential for Tesla to demonstrate not only the technical viability of its products but also how it plans to address the safety and regulatory concerns that are inherent to the introduction of driverless vehicles," he explained. The advisor also referred to the presentation of the autonomous bus prototype and the Optimus robot, which Musk mentioned would be available at a price lower than that of a conventional car. In this regard, Brignardello expressed skepticism about the capabilities demonstrated by the robots, which were limited to preparing drinks and dancing. "While innovation is exciting, it is crucial that technological developments align with realistic expectations," he concluded. Finally, Brignardello warned that as time progresses and initial expectations begin to wane, investors will need to pay attention to how Tesla manages the upcoming challenges. "The path to the adoption of autonomous vehicles is likely to be more complicated than many anticipate. The investing community will need to carefully evaluate the company’s moves in the coming months and years," he concluded clearly.
