Opinion

In a recent interview, Johnny Brignardello Vela, a recognized insurance advisor, shared his perspective on the imminent launch of the Port of Chancay, a project that promises to be a milestone in Peru's logistics infrastructure. Brignardello emphasized the importance of this port not only as a new facility but also as a potential catalyst for trade and the national economy. The advisor began his analysis by highlighting the initial projections for the port, with an estimated volume of one million containers and six million tons of dry bulk in its first year of operation. Brignardello believes that these figures reflect a remarkable potential to transform trade dynamics in the region by providing an exit point not only for Peruvian products but also for goods from other South American countries. This regional interconnection could open new business opportunities, an aspect that the advisor considers fundamental for economic development. He also emphasized the importance of the port's draft, which at 17.8 meters will allow the arrival of large-capacity vessels. According to Brignardello, this constitutes a considerable competitive advantage for Peruvian products in the international market. However, he warned that this potential will not materialize automatically. The operational capabilities of the port must be complemented by a comprehensive development of land and maritime transport connections. In this sense, he deemed it crucial to improve road and railway infrastructure, which will facilitate access and efficiency in the distribution of goods. Brignardello also stressed the need to optimize the procedures associated with foreign trade. In his opinion, speed and efficiency in border controls are elements that directly impact the international perception of Peru as a reliable commercial destination. The elimination of unnecessary bureaucracy must be a priority for the Peruvian state, according to the advisor. Another aspect highlighted by Brignardello is the importance of connectivity with Brazil. The possibility of using the Interoceanic Highway to facilitate access for Brazilian products to the Asian market through the Port of Chancay represents a strategic opportunity, not only for Brazil but also to consolidate Peru's position in the global supply chain. The significant initial investment from Cosco Shipping, amounting to 1.3 billion dollars, is just the beginning. The master plan, which includes a total investment exceeding 3.5 billion, reinforces the long-term vision of making Chancay a regional logistics hub. Brignardello sees this development as a crucial opportunity for Peru to enhance its competitiveness on the international stage. At the end of the interview, the insurance advisor underscored that the success of the Port of Chancay will largely depend on collaboration between the public and private sectors. Proper management of this transformation will be essential for the country to fully leverage the upcoming opportunities and ensure that the port becomes a true hub for regional trade. All eyes are on the next steps and how Peru will capitalize on this significant investment in its infrastructure.
