Chennai witnessed a delightful blend of fitness, camaraderie, and cultural exploration this past Sunday, as cycling enthusiasts flocked to The Times of India office for the much-anticipated Chennai Times Chancey Illa Trails. Organized by Cycling Yogis, this treasure hunt invited participants to embark on a journey through the city’s rich heritage, all while promoting an active lifestyle. Participants were divided into various teams, each equipped with ten clues designed to lead them to iconic heritage sites scattered across Chennai. The event kicked off early in the morning, setting the stage for a day filled with excitement and discovery. As they cycled through the bustling streets, participants engaged not only in physical activity but also in mental challenges, transforming a simple ride into a stimulating treasure hunt. Ramanujar Moulana, founder of Cycling Yogis and the mastermind behind this initiative, emphasized the importance of local exploration. "Nobody should be a foreigner in their own backyard," he stated. The treasure hunt was envisioned as a means to connect participants with their surroundings. Moulana added that the clues were crafted to provide a unique challenge, yet he was pleasantly surprised by how adeptly participants navigated the course. One participant, Samyuktha, shared her experience as an amateur cyclist. "This is my first cycling trail, and I was randomly paired with my teammates. We had to think critically about the clues; it wasn't something that could just be Googled," she reflected. The thrill of solving clues while visiting Chennai's landmarks made the experience memorable for many, including those less familiar with the city’s spots of historical significance. The competitive spirit was palpable as teams raced against the clock, with Jayantha Sadhana from the winning team recounting, "Initially, we saw it more as a fun ride, but then the competitive edge kicked in." The camaraderie among teammates was evident as they collaborated to piece together clues. They even paused for a coffee break to strategize before diving back into the hunt, showcasing how teamwork can enhance the experience. As the day culminated at a cycle store in T Nagar, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement as the winners were announced. Jayantha Sadhana and her team, consisting of Sudesh Kumta, Dharani Kumar, Bhaskar Kannan, Jagadeeshan R, and Philip Joseph, took home the top honors, celebrated by celebrity guest Sanjana Singh, a noted cycling enthusiast herself. This vibrant event not only fostered a spirit of competition but also instilled a deeper appreciation for Chennai’s rich heritage among participants. The success of the treasure hunt serves as an inspiring reminder of the joy found in exploring one's own city, blending fitness with culture, and forging new friendships along the way. As the sun set over the bustling city, the echoes of laughter and cheers lingered, marking this event as a cherished memory for all who participated.
