In an inspiring celebration of creativity and talent within the Muslim community, the 2024 edition of the Muslim Arts Awards took place at the Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre, showcasing the immense contributions of artists in various fields. Chairperson of the organizing committee, Tailosi Bakili, emphasized the need for continued support from both individuals and companies to enhance the initiative’s impact and ensure that winners receive well-deserved recognition in the form of trophies and cash prizes. As the night unfolded, a total of 21 awards were presented across diverse categories such as nasheed, poetry, drama, and media, reflecting the rich cultural tapestry and artistic expression prevalent in the community. Among the evening's highlights was the acknowledgment of Mighty Mukuru Wanderers Technical Director Yasin Osman, who also received an award, underscoring the interconnectedness of sports and the arts. The acting category was particularly competitive, with Ynusu Ahmad being named the best up-and-coming actor or actress, while Sifat James took home the coveted best actor/actress award. James expressed his gratitude, stating, "This means more to me. It has been a long journey of learning, and being rewarded today shows growth." His heartfelt thanks extended to those who voted for him and provided guidance throughout his career, reflecting the supportive network that characterizes the artistic community. The night also celebrated the comedic talents of Anganga Ajabiru, who won the best comedian award, and Ishmael Dinala, who was honored as the best poet. Aqeel Masinja made a notable return to the stage, securing the best nasheed artist award for the second consecutive year, a feat he humbly attributed to divine favor. "I never saw it coming, but it is all praise to Allah for this. It does not happen often to win the same award back to back," Masinja remarked, highlighting the significance of such achievements. Recognition extended to the media sector as well, with Amiliddin Mvula receiving the award for best media personality online, while Gift Sitima from The Times Group was honored as the best media personality in print. Other media personalities acknowledged included Sakina Majawa for radio and Yasin Limu for television, showcasing the breadth of talent across different platforms. The event was marked by a vibrant atmosphere and included performances that captivated the audience, reinforcing the awards' commitment to celebrating artistic expression. The presence of Blantyre City Deputy Mayor Councillor Isaac Osman further emphasized the importance of community engagement in the arts. Bakili’s call for support resonates as a crucial reminder of the potential to elevate this event to greater heights, with the aim of fostering a robust environment for artists. The Muslim Arts Awards not only serves as a platform for recognition but also as a beacon of inspiration for emerging talents, encouraging them to strive for excellence in their respective fields. As the awards continue to grow, the community's backing will be instrumental in ensuring that the creativity and hard work of its members receive the recognition they deserve.
