In a vibrant move to promote physical activity and camaraderie among young women, a new running group named See Her Run has been launched in Jersey. This initiative aims to create a safe, inclusive, and non-competitive environment specifically designed for teenage girls in school years 10 to 13. With an emphasis on community and support, the group seeks to empower girls to embrace running as a means of both physical fitness and social interaction. The genesis of See Her Run comes from a desire to provide a nurturing space where girls can engage in running without the pressures often associated with competitive sports. Ceri Tinley, the founder of the group, emphasized that the initiative is particularly geared towards those who are finishing the Jersey Sport's Couch to 5K scheme, along with any girl who is motivated to run for at least 30 minutes, regardless of pace or experience level. "In today’s fast-paced world, it’s vital for young girls to find activities that not only promote physical health but also foster friendships and a sense of belonging," Tinley stated. "See Her Run is about encouraging girls to come together twice a week to enjoy running while also building connections with one another." The group will meet regularly, allowing participants to set their own goals and progress at their own pace. This format is especially appealing to those who may feel intimidated by traditional running clubs, which can often emphasize competition and performance. By stripping away these pressures, See Her Run hopes to cultivate a love for running that transcends competition. Moreover, the group is positioned to support girls in a critical phase of their development, as they navigate the pressures of adolescence. By engaging in a shared activity like running, members can help each other build confidence, resilience, and a positive self-image. As communities increasingly recognize the importance of mental and physical health, initiatives like See Her Run are becoming essential. By encouraging young women to take up running, the group not only promotes fitness and well-being but also creates a platform for personal growth and social support among peers. With the first sessions set to kick off soon, the enthusiasm surrounding See Her Run is palpable. Interested girls are encouraged to join, whether they are seasoned runners or complete beginners. The support and encouragement provided by the group will likely resonate deeply with participants, fostering a strong sense of community as they lace up their running shoes and hit the trails together.
