Since its premiere in 2012, "Esto es Guerra" has been a cornerstone of youth entertainment in Peru, featuring various personalities who have made their mark as hosts. This year, following the departure of Johanna San Miguel, Katia Palma has embarked on the adventure of directing the program alongside Renzo Schuller, a challenge that is presented in a revamped format since September 2. Palma, who has extensive experience in television, feels prepared to take the reins of this media phenomenon. Katia, whose career dates back to 2001 when she began as the host of the show "Nada Personal," confidently asserts that she has the necessary tools to face this challenge. "I have the command, experience, and the tools required to carry out a program of this magnitude," she emphasizes. The new format of the show will be divided into two segments: "Cuerpo" (Body), focused on physical skill challenges, and "Mente" (Mind), which will test the competitors' knowledge. This division promises not only to entertain but also to provide a space for learning for the young participants. The host acknowledges that one of the most important aspects of her job is the connection with the competitors. "For me, the real protagonists are them; their energy and charisma are what keep the audience engaged. Renzo and I are here just to ensure everything flows smoothly," Palma points out, feeling motivated by the daily interaction with the young talents of the program. Her focus on the development of the participants reinforces the idea that the success of the show lies not only in entertainment but also in the personal growth of the contestants. Her experience in television has been a journey of constant learning. After her time on "Nada Personal," Katia joined "Habacilar," where she honed her hosting skills. Her time working alongside Raúl Romero was crucial for her professional growth. "I spent five years with Raúl, and when he couldn't be there, I took the lead with Carlos (Barraza). It was a very enriching experience," she explains, highlighting the importance of teamwork and the direction of a good producer like Peter Fajardo. In addition to her television career, Katia has explored theater, a realm that has provided her with creative freedom and the opportunity to delve into comedy. "Theater gave me the freedom to break the fourth wall and develop solid comedy," she comments, referring to how these experiences have prepared her for hosting on television. This theatrical background has influenced her style, giving her a more human and approachable touch in her interactions. However, not everything is fun and laughter. Katia is aware that humor can be a double-edged sword. While she has had the opportunity to participate in more irreverent comedy programs, such as "CTM," which are popular among the audience, she prefers a more respectful and traditional style of humor. "Making people laugh isn't easy, but it's natural for me. Humor has a very thin line; respect is fundamental," she explains candidly. The host has been critical of the humor used by some current programs. "The guys from 'Hablando huevadas' are very cruel and say things with a freedom that they've generated themselves," she points out. Despite recognizing the success of such programs, Katia aligns herself with a school of humor that prioritizes respect and empathy towards the audience and others. "I couldn't speak ill of someone who doesn't concern me," she adds, reaffirming her commitment to a more positive form of humor. As Katia settles into her new role, she is also working on other projects. She highlights the new season of "Las Bándalas 2," which will air in October, as well as a potential YouTube program with Maricarmen Marín. Although she is still defining the focus of the latter, what is certain is that humor will remain the foundation of her content. With her new chapter in "Esto es Guerra," Katia Palma reaffirms her position as one of the most versatile figures in Peruvian television. With a blend of experience, respect for the craft, and a fresh approach, she is ready to leave her mark on this iconic program while continuing to explore new opportunities that showcase her talent and passion for entertainment. The audience will undoubtedly be attentive to how her career unfolds in this new adventure.
