The installation of modular access bridges to the new Jorge Chávez International Airport, located in Callao, has been a significant milestone in the process of modernizing and expanding the country’s airport infrastructure. The Minister of Transport and Communications, Raúl Pérez Reyes, announced that this project will be completed by August 23, ahead of schedule, reflecting positive progress in the development of a project that is crucial for the growth of tourism and commerce in Peru. During the signing of Addendum No. 8 of the concession contract with Lima Airport Partners (LAP), Pérez explained that this addendum is essential for providing legal viability to the construction process of the internal roads that will connect with the modular bridges. This step is fundamental to ensure that the new airport can operate efficiently from its opening. "We are working to ensure that the new airport is not just another project, but a true engine of development for the country," emphasized the minister. The signed addendum also has financial implications, as it includes a temporary suspension of payments to the State by LAP. This measure will allow resources that would typically be allocated to this payment to be redirected toward the construction of the necessary internal roads, thereby facilitating the timely start of operations at the new airport. This financial approach aims to optimize resources and accelerate the completion of the works. The modular bridges, which are being executed by Provías Nacional, will have a length of 81.9 meters and will feature a double lane. These structures will be installed over the Rímac River, at the intersection of Nuevo Aeropuerto and Morales Duárez avenues, and their design is intended to ensure smooth traffic, a vital characteristic given the anticipated increase in air transport demand with the opening of the new terminal. High-ranking officials from LAP also participated in the signing ceremony, including its general manager, Juan José Salmón, and the financial director, Pilar Vizcarra. Together, they reaffirmed their commitment to the development of the new airport, which has already surpassed 90% completion. This progress not only highlights the effectiveness of public-private collaboration but also underscores the importance of having modern infrastructure to position Peru as a leader in air connectivity in the region. The new Jorge Chávez International Airport will not only double the number of boarding bridges compared to the current airport but will also become one of the main hubs in Latin America. It is expected that, by the end of 2025, the airport's capacity will expand to accommodate 40 million passengers annually, which could transform the dynamics of tourism and commerce in the country. The project includes a series of innovations that promise to enhance the passenger experience. The construction includes a modern passenger terminal, two new runways, and a state-of-the-art control tower. Additionally, complementary services will be integrated, such as hotels, commercial spaces, a cargo area, and a logistics park, which will diversify the options available for travelers and visitors. The fuel plant, which will have tripled capacity, is another highlight of the project, ensuring that the new airport can operate efficiently and sustainably. Furthermore, the extensive parking area will facilitate access to the terminal, making travel to and from the airport a more comfortable and accessible experience for everyone. With the completion of these works, the Ministry of Transport and Communications anticipates that the new infrastructure will not only benefit passengers but will also consolidate Peru as the main commercial, logistical, and tourist hub in the region. This transformation is seen as a necessary boost for the country’s economic development, which has faced various challenges in recent years. In summary, the completion of the modular bridge installation and the acceleration of the works on the new Jorge Chávez International Airport are part of a broader vision to improve the country’s infrastructure. This airport, being three times the size of the current one, will not only transform the travel experience but also positions itself as a true engine of growth for Peru on the international stage.
