Spencer Gore has taken the reins at Chelmsford City, aiming to propel the club into the upper echelons of the National League South. With a clear vision and an analytical approach, Gore is determined to unlock the Clarets' full potential and lead them toward promotion. In his first statements since acquiring the club, Gore emphasized the importance of setting measurable goals. "In my businesses, I set a goal and then reverse engineer it," he shared with BBC Essex Sport. By assessing the club's current operations and understanding their efficacy, Gore plans to develop a strategy that maximizes Chelmsford's capabilities. "We'll look at the club and say, 'What is the absolute potential of this club? Now let's put a plan in place to achieve that,’" he explained. Last season, Chelmsford finished a commendable second in the league, winning 24 of their 46 matches. However, their journey ended in disappointment when they lost 3-2 to Braintree Town in the play-off semi-finals. It was a heart-wrenching moment for manager Robbie Simpson, who, according to Gore, took time to reflect on the season and has now committed himself to the club for another campaign. "It really hit him hard at the end of last season, particularly because it was the second year on the trot," Gore remarked, expressing confidence in Simpson's ability to guide the team toward success this season. Gore is optimistic about the club's future, citing the potential for greater achievements. "We had a below mid-table budget last year, just below average for the league, and we finished second, so I think we massively over-achieved on the pitch," he said. He believes that Chelmsford, located in one of the fastest-growing and affluent cities in the country, can support a club with ambitions higher than its current standing. Despite the timing of the takeover affecting this season's budget planning, Gore is upbeat about the financial resources at his disposal. "The budget that had been set for this season was slightly bigger than last season. We'll review that and look at what we think we need to do to achieve the goals," he noted. With Simpson feeling comfortable with the existing budget, both men appear focused on the singular aim of promotion. As the Clarets prepare to kick off their new campaign, they face an away match against Slough Town, followed by a home game against Hampton & Richmond. The upcoming matches will set the tone for a season filled with hope and ambition as Chelmsford City looks to scale new heights under Spencer Gore’s leadership. The community watches closely, eager to see how the club's revitalized vision translates onto the pitch.
