La Pampilla Refinery, a subsidiary of the Spanish multinational Repsol, has achieved a remarkable 20% increase in its gasoline production after completing an ambitious maintenance and investment program at its facilities located in Ventanilla, Callao. This effort not only translates into a significant increase in production capacity but also reinforces the company's commitment to sustainability and safety in its operations. Julián de la Calle, the Refining Director of Repsol Peru, highlighted that this advancement is the result of a meticulous process that encompassed 12 months of preparation and over 480,000 man-hours dedicated to ensuring that the facilities operated as efficiently and safely as possible. "This increase in the production of clean gasoline, both regular and premium, underscores our commitment to productive development in Peru," he stated during the presentation of the results. One of the most notable aspects of this project has been the special attention to safety. The company accumulated a total of 62,000 hours of training in this area and achieved the goal of zero accidents during the execution of the work. More than 1,200 professionals from 42 different companies collaborated in carrying out these tasks, highlighting the magnitude and complexity of the maintenance performed. This effort, categorized as the largest multi-year maintenance shutdown in the history of La Pampilla, included the scheduled maintenance of several productive units in the refinery. Despite the scale of the work, the company ensured the uninterrupted supply of fuels to its customers, thanks to detailed planning in fuel acquisition and inventory management. With this increase in production, La Pampilla Refinery ensures a supply of quality fuels, which also helps reduce the country's dependence on gasoline imports. This strategy aligns with the needs of the local market and the sustainability goals that the company has been promoting in recent years. Last July, the refinery announced the installation of a new electric pump in the cracking unit as part of its technological improvement plans. This initiative, representing an investment of approximately $1.3 million, will optimize production processes, reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions, marking a significant step towards a more environmentally responsible operational model. The energy sources for this new system will come from an existing electrical substation, eliminating the need for modifications to the refinery's infrastructure. The installation of this pump is just one component of a broader set of initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency and minimizing the environmental impact of the refinery's activities. According to the latest reports, La Pampilla Refinery has allocated a total of $7.7 million to investments during the first quarter of 2024. Of this amount, nearly $4.4 million has been assigned to the project for increasing the production capacity of low-sulfur gasoline, while another $3.1 million has been invested in safety and infrastructure improvements. However, despite the increase in production, the operational outlook of the refinery has not been without challenges. Sales have decreased by 4.9% compared to the previous year, due to a 4.7% drop in selling prices driven by lower international quotations. Nevertheless, the company has seen a slight 0.3% increase in sales volume, primarily driven by an 11.7% growth in domestic sales, while exports have been affected, registering a 44.1% decrease. In conclusion, La Pampilla Refinery is undergoing a significant transformation, seeking not only to increase its production and improve the quality of its fuels but also to reaffirm its commitment to sustainability and safety in all its operations. As the company continues to advance its projects, the impact of these initiatives will be crucial for the development of the energy sector in Peru and for meeting the expectations of an increasingly demanding market in terms of quality and environmental responsibility.
