Miraflores, one of the most emblematic tourist destinations in Lima, is preparing for significant development in its infrastructure, with the implementation of three projects aimed at enhancing its appeal and consolidating its position as the epicenter of tourism in the Peruvian capital. These initiatives will not only facilitate access to the beautiful coastal landscapes and the rich cultural offerings of the district, but are also expected to have a positive impact on the local economy. The first project to highlight is the construction of an innovative cable car that will connect Miraflores with its beautiful beaches. This initiative aims to primarily improve accessibility for tourists, who will be able to enjoy a panoramic ride that allows them to appreciate the beauty of the Lima coastline in a unique way. This new attraction is expected to draw not only domestic visitors but also international tourists, encouraging an increase in the length of stays in the district. The second project is a pedestrian bridge that will link Miraflores and Barranco, two of the most popular districts in Lima. This connection will facilitate a constant flow of tourists between both areas, resulting in increased economic activity and a mutual enrichment of cultural and recreational offerings. Barranco, known for its bohemian atmosphere and rich artistic history, will perfectly complement the experience that Miraflores offers to visitors. Finally, the construction of a new convention center in Miraflores responds to the growing demand for spaces for meetings and events tourism. This center is designed to host conferences, fairs, and other large-scale events, positioning the district as an attractive destination for professionals and companies looking to hold events in a vibrant and accessible environment. The arrival of this center will not only increase the number of visitors but will also generate employment and promote the development of complementary services in the area. Fredy Gamarra, general manager of Ahora Perú, emphasizes the importance of these initiatives in the current context. "It's not just about attracting more tourists, but about elevating Miraflores as a key destination on the country's tourist map. These projects will have a significant impact on the foreign currency generated and on the local economy," he assures. Despite these advances in Miraflores, it is relevant to mention that growth is not uniform across the country. Recent data from the Society of Foreign Trade of Peru reveals that San Marcos, a small district nestled in the province of Huari, Áncash, has surpassed Miraflores and La Molina in terms of wealth. With an economy based on agriculture and livestock, San Marcos has managed to position itself favorably thanks to the resources obtained from the exploitation of mineral goods. However, this contrast in local economies also reflects significant challenges. San Marcos faces serious social problems, with a high number of homes lacking basic services and alarming educational gaps. This highlights that, although certain areas are experiencing economic growth, not all Peruvian communities benefit equitably from the available resources. In the capital, the real estate market also reflects these disparities. San Martín de Porres stands out as the most affordable district for purchasing housing, while the cost of apartments in Barranco rises to considerably higher levels. This reflects not only a difference in economic accessibility but also in the type of residential offerings and services available in each area. As Miraflores embarks on these new projects, the challenge will be to ensure that tourism and economic growth translate into tangible improvements for all citizens. The key will be to find a balance between attracting visitors and ensuring that the benefits of this growth are distributed equitably among the local population. The future of Miraflores, with the implementation of these three projects, paints an optimistic picture full of opportunities. However, it is essential that this transformation occurs sustainably, taking into account the needs of current residents and future generations. Only then can it be ensured that Miraflores is not only a benchmark tourist destination but also a place where its community thrives in harmony with its rich cultural and natural heritage.
