The cinephile spirit in Lima is renewed and strengthened with the arrival of the 28th edition of the Lima PUCP Film Festival. This year, the country's most important film event brings with it a series of novelties that promise to enrich the experience of lovers of the seventh art. One of the great surprises will be the inclusion of a Peruvian Competition, a section that brings together eight films by prominent national filmmakers, such as Tito Catacora, Omar Forero, Joel Calero, Cesar Galindo, and Patricia Wiesse, among others. In this edition, the presence of Peruvian productions is notable in the various sections of the festival. In the Official Fiction Competition, titles such as "Kinra" by Marco Panatonic, winner of the 2023 Mar del Plata Festival, stand out, as well as "Reinas" by Klaudia Reynicke and "Raíz" by Franco García Becerra, acclaimed films at the Berlin Festival. Likewise, in the Official Documentary Competition, you can enjoy "El archivo bastardo" by Marianela Vega, representing national talent in this genre. However, the competition will be tough, as the festival will also feature outstanding Latin American and world productions from renowned international festivals. Among the noteworthy films are "C'est Pas Moi" by the French Leos Carax, "Grand Tour" by the Portuguese Miguel Gomes, "Caught by the Tides" by the Chinese Jia Zhangke, and "La sustancia" by the French Coralie Fargeat, with the stellar participation of Demi Moore. In addition to the competitive sections, the Lima PUCP Film Festival will offer a varied program that includes a well-deserved tribute to the French director Arnaud Desplechin, known for his masterpieces such as "Kings and Queen" and "A Christmas Tale." Desplechin will present a sample of his filmography, including his most recent work "Spectateurs!", premiered at the Cannes Festival. The PUCP Film Library will also be a fundamental part of this edition, celebrating 20 years of dedicated work in the preservation and restoration of Peruvian cinematic heritage. On this occasion, restored versions of works by prominent national directors such as Nora de Izcue, Armando Robles Godoy, Francisco Lombardi, and Alberto Durant, among others, will be presented. The festival will not be limited to the capital, as a decentralized exhibition will take part of the program to cities such as Arequipa and Chiclayo, bringing the cinematic art to different regions of the country. In addition, a tribute will be paid to the Peruvian filmmaker Mary Jiménez, with the screening of four of her films, and a cycle dedicated to French cinema, from its pioneers to contemporary directors, will be held. This year's theme, "The Cinema Ritual," highlights the importance of the cinematic experience and the act of going to a theater to enjoy a movie on the big screen. With a diverse and attractive program, the Lima PUCP Film Festival is preparing to captivate cinephiles and celebrate cinematic art in its fullest expression. The projectors and seats are ready, let the show begin!
