At 81 years old, Mr. Jones-Bratt is embarking on a remarkable initiative to turn personal tragedy into a force for good. Despite facing challenges brought on by age-related macular degeneration, which has left him visually impaired, Mr. Jones-Bratt is determined to make a positive impact through a series of fundraising walks. Following the sudden death of his partner, Mary, Mr. Jones-Bratt found solace and motivation in organizing a "walk in the park" fundraiser. Expressing his outlook on the difficult past year, he stated, "It devastated my year last year and I thought, this year - instead of feeling sorry for myself - let's do something positive." This sentiment encapsulates his resilient spirit and determination to channel grief into action. The seasoned fundraiser, hailing from Stafford, is no stranger to philanthropic endeavors. Having initiated the first Cannock Chase marathon in 1983 and participated in over 50 marathons nationwide, including the prestigious London Marathon seven times, Mr. Jones-Bratt has a longstanding commitment to charitable causes. For this latest fundraising endeavor, he aims to support two important charities: Asthma Relief and Thrombosis UK. Planning to undertake five 10-mile walks, Mr. Jones-Bratt likened the challenge to a "walk in the park," showcasing his unwavering optimism and zest for life. His past accomplishments attest to his indomitable spirit, having completed demanding feats such as running from John O'Groats to Lands End in 1985 and traversing the entire length of the River Severn. Now, with the "walk in the park" fundraiser, Mr. Jones-Bratt continues to inspire others with his resilience, determination, and dedication to making a difference in the world. As he laces up his walking shoes and sets out on this new journey, Mr. Jones-Bratt serves as a beacon of hope and courage, demonstrating that age is no barrier to pursuing meaningful goals and contributing to causes greater than oneself. His actions remind us all of the power of turning personal adversity into opportunities for positive change and community support.
