In the first semester of the current year, the National Environmental Certification Service for Sustainable Investments (Senace) has given the green light to a total of 103 projects in various key sectors of the Peruvian economy. According to information provided by the Ministry of the Environment, these initiatives cover areas such as mining, transportation, electricity, agriculture, solid waste, hydrocarbons, sanitation, and housing, with an estimated investment exceeding US$ 5.4 billion. It is important to highlight that these investments have been qualified as sustainable, which means that in addition to contributing to the country's economic growth, environmental respect has been taken into consideration in their execution. Among the approved projects is the Modification of the Detailed Environmental Impact Study (MEIA-d) of the Antamina mining company in Áncash, which includes an investment of US$ 2 billion in sustainable practices. Other projects that obtained environmental certification in this period include the first MEIA-d of the "Modernization and Development of the Multipurpose Port Terminal of Salaverry" project in La Libertad, with an investment of US$ 61 million, as well as the third MEIA-d of the Tantahuatay and Pucamarca mines in Cajamarca and Tacna, with investments of US$ 1.536 billion and US$ 105 million respectively. Since its inception in 2015, Senace has approved a total of 77 Detailed Environmental Impact Studies (EIA-d) and MEIA-d for an amount exceeding US$ 34 billion in sustainable investments. These projects not only represent a significant injection of capital into the Peruvian economy but also demonstrate a commitment to the preservation of the natural environment and the promotion of responsible practices. Furthermore, Senace emphasized the importance of its "Senace en Cifras" portal, which provides updated information on environmental certification processes, statistical data, and indicators of interest to various stakeholders, from citizens to environmental consultants, public entities, students, and professional guilds. This portal offers transparency on the investment amounts of approved and under evaluation studies, as well as social management indicators to promote citizen participation and intercultural actions. It is worth noting that the approval of these projects not only implies an opportunity for economic development for the country but also the generation of employment and the promotion of investment in strategic sectors. It is essential that these investments are made responsibly and sustainably, ensuring the protection of the environment and the well-being of local communities. In a context where environmental awareness and sustainability are increasingly relevant, Senace's work in certifying sustainable projects becomes crucial to ensure balanced and respectful development of our environment. Transparency and citizen participation in these processes are essential to ensure that approved investments benefit the entire society and contribute to sustainable long-term economic growth.
