The Ministry of Education of Peru has taken an important step towards improving the quality of education in the district of San Juan de Lurigancho (SJL), announcing an investment of over 1 million dollars in infrastructure for the reconstruction of 14 bicentennial schools. This project, which is part of the Special Public Investment Project (PEIP), is the result of an agreement signed with the Government of the United Kingdom and aims to modernize educational facilities for the benefit of thousands of students. Education in the country largely depends on government initiatives that seek to ensure better access to teaching and adequate infrastructure for learning. In this sense, the announcement of the reconstruction of 14 schools in SJL represents a historic milestone that promises to transform the reality of education in the area, providing modern and equipped spaces to enhance the academic development of students. The Local Educational Management Unit (UGEL) No. 05, under the Ministry of Education, has emphasized the importance of this project, which will benefit more than 27,600 students in SJL. The official handover of the keys of the educational institutions to the contracting company marks the beginning of the implementation phase of the works, which will be carried out by the Peruvian branch of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC - Peru). The Bicentennial Schools that will benefit from this project will have workshops, laboratories, and modern classrooms that will contribute to improving the teaching-learning process. The student mayor of the district of SJL, Briana Salazar, has expressed her joy at the launch of this initiative that promises to elevate the educational quality in the area. The estimated duration of the reconstruction works of the schools in SJL is around one year, with the demolition of the current facilities scheduled to begin in the second half of July. The construction of the new schools will be carried out according to international standards and it is expected that they will be ready for the 2025 school year, offering students modern and functional environments for their academic development. The PEIP also includes the participation of strategic partners such as Finland, with the aim of providing Specialized Technical Assistance (STA) to ensure the quality of the works. This project adds to the efforts of the Peruvian Government to improve educational infrastructure throughout the country and provide students with the necessary conditions for quality learning. In parallel to the reconstruction of schools in SJL, the National Educational Infrastructure Program (PRONIED) under the Ministry of Education continues to carry out remodeling works in other emblematic educational institutions in the country. An example of this is the Emblematic Educational Institution (IEE) "Juan Guerrero Quimper," recognized as the most modern and largest public school in Lima, whose renovated facilities benefit over 1700 secondary students. Investment in educational infrastructure is essential to ensure a conducive environment for learning and the integral development of students. With projects like the PEIP and the remodeling works in emblematic schools, the Peruvian Government demonstrates its commitment to education and its goal of providing quality opportunities for all students in the country. The transformation of schools in SJL and throughout Peru is a key step towards inclusive and excellent education.
