The candidate for comptroller by the Executive Power, César Aguilar Surichaqui, has raised an important flag by announcing that, if he were to assume the position of Comptroller General of the Republic, he will carefully evaluate the continuity of concurrent control. This decision, which has caused a stir among political sectors and civil society interested in transparency and the fight against corruption, was exposed during the interview conducted by the subcommittee responsible for evaluating his candidacy. Aguilar Surichaqui has not hesitated to point out that, in his opinion, concurrent control has not yielded the expected results. Specifically, he has stated that this procedure has not succeeded in reducing corruption rates in public administration, but rather, they have increased. Faced with this situation, the candidate has emphasized the need to reconsider the usefulness and effectiveness of this control mechanism. In this sense, the candidate has expressed his willingness to thoroughly review the functioning of concurrent control in the State, in order to determine whether it is advisable to maintain it in its current form or if it needs to be completely redesigned. For Aguilar Surichaqui, it is essential that the Comptroller's Office does not become an obstacle to the efficient management of good members of public administration. One of the candidate's most forceful criticisms has been directed at the lack of training of the auditors responsible for carrying out concurrent control. According to him, many of these professionals do not properly understand their functions, which causes delays in public works and hinders oversight work. Likewise, he has denounced that the funds allocated for this type of control are inactive in the Comptroller's bank accounts, without having been used for their original purpose. In addition to his analysis of concurrent control, Aguilar Surichaqui has urged Congress to repeal regulations that he considers contrary to the fight against corruption. In this sense, he has expressed his commitment not to establish a policy of complicity with the members of the Comptroller's Office, opting for a transparent management focused on combating corruption in all its forms. Another highlighted point in the candidate's proposal is the reactivation of the Rapid Action Unit of the Comptroller's Office, with the aim of carrying out operations and adopting effective measures against corruption in public administration. This initiative seeks to strengthen the role of the Comptroller's Office as a guarantor of transparency and probity in the use of state resources. Following the conclusion of the personal interview with César Aguilar Surichaqui, the vice president of the subcommittee responsible for evaluating his candidacy, Alex Paredes, announced the suspension of the session until Monday, July 22, when the debate and vote on the final report will take place. This decision hints at the importance and complexity of the process of electing the next Comptroller General of the Republic, a key position in the fight against corruption and the oversight of public resources in the country. In conclusion, the statements and proposals of César Aguilar Surichaqui have sparked a necessary debate about the effectiveness of existing control tools in the State, as well as the importance of strengthening the work of the Comptroller's Office in the prevention and detection of acts of corruption. Civil society, political parties, and competent authorities will have the responsibility to carefully analyze these proposals and make decisions that contribute to consolidating a transparent and efficient control system for the benefit of all Peruvians.
