Foton's pickup line, Tunland, has made a triumphant entry into the Mexican market, offering a variety of models that include hybrid, diesel, and electric versions. This foray into the competitive pickup segment comes hand in hand with the brand's importer in Mexico, highlighting both the load capacity and the level of equipment that promise to be attractive to consumers looking for a versatile vehicle. The prices of the four models that make up the Foton pickup family range from 400,000 to one million pesos, with a total of 270 units sold to date. Francisco Chávez, Foton's general director in Mexico, plans to place between 2,500 and 3,000 units in the market over the course of a year, demonstrating confidence in the potential of the Tunland line in the country. Versatility is one of the main characteristics of the Tunland line, offering models with gasoline, diesel, or hybrid engines, manual or automatic transmissions, and 4x2 or 4x4 traction, adapting to the needs and preferences of consumers. For example, the Tunland G7 offers versions ranging from a gasoline engine and 4x2 traction, to a diesel engine, manual transmission, 4x4 traction, and even an electric version with an impressive range of up to 500 kilometers on a single battery charge. The Tunland G9 stands out for its diesel engine and 4x4 traction, while the hybrid models of the V line offer options in both 4x2 traction with a diesel engine and 4x4 traction. Additionally, as part of their commitment to customer satisfaction, the Tunland line pickups will come with a 10-year or 200,000-kilometer warranty, providing peace of mind to buyers. During the presentation of the Tunland line, Miguel Ángel Velasco, general director of LDR Solutions, highlighted the focus on product sustainability and the differentiating technology incorporated into Foton's pickups, aspects that could be key to standing out in an increasingly demanding market. The bet on advanced technology and competitive prices could be a determining factor for Tunland pickups to win over Mexican consumers. The pickup market in Mexico has shown sustained growth in recent years, with encouraging figures indicating increasing demand. In 2023, around 300,000 units were sold, and in the first months of 2024, a solid pace has been maintained, with an approximate annual increase of 5%. This favorable scenario could benefit the arrival of the Tunland line at a propitious time for its introduction to the market. Regarding infrastructure and production, LDR Solutions has launched a parts distribution center in Querétaro to improve spare parts availability, with plans to expand its distributor network and build a second assembly plant in Jalisco. This new plant is expected to start operating in the second half of 2025, with a production capacity exceeding 12,000 units per year, allowing for exploration of exports to North and Central America. With a 28-year history in the market, Foton joins the rise of Asian brands that are consolidating their presence in Mexico, focusing on innovation and product diversification. The company's commitment to positioning itself in all market segments reflects an ambition to continue growing and meeting the needs of Mexican consumers, who are increasingly seeking quality and sustainable options in the automotive sector.
