Chantelle Cameron, the former world champion in the light-welterweight division, has set her sights on reclaiming her undisputed crown, but doubts linger over the possibility of a trilogy bout with her rival Katie Taylor. The 33-year-old British boxer recently spoke out about her intentions, expressing her eagerness to once again hold all four recognized world titles in the division. Cameron's journey back to the top will resume this weekend when she faces Elhem Mekhaled at Birmingham's Resort World Arena. In a recent interview with BBC Sport, Cameron shared her determination, stating, "I'm on a mission for my belts and I want to get them as soon as I can." Her previous conquests in the division, including a unification victory against Jessica McCaskill in 2022, have solidified her position as a prominent figure in the boxing world. However, it is her rivalry with Irish boxing superstar Katie Taylor that has garnered significant attention. After defeating Taylor in their initial encounter in May 2023, Cameron suffered a loss to the Irishwoman in a rematch in November of the same year. Despite the previous matchups between the two fighters, Cameron hinted at the reluctance she perceives from Taylor to engage in a third fight. "I don't think Katie wants to fight me again," Cameron remarked. "She knows she got that win in November and she'd rather not fight me. I'd be very optimistic of winning a third fight." The uncertainty surrounding a potential trilogy bout between Cameron and Taylor adds an intriguing layer to the light-welterweight division's narrative. As Cameron continues her pursuit of reclaiming her titles, the boxing world eagerly anticipates how her rivalry with Taylor may unfold in the future.
