On a day like today, July 19th, invites us to remember important events that have marked history over the years. 45 years ago, in 1979, Managua witnessed the entry of fighters who were battling against the regime of Anastasio Somoza, leading to the triumph of the Sandinista revolution. This event represented a significant change in Nicaraguan politics and in the lives of its inhabitants. In a turn towards science, in 1595, the German astronomer Johannes Kepler presented his work 'Mysterium Cosmographicum', in which he described the invisible structure with the orbits of the six known planets at that time. Kepler, with his groundbreaking research, fundamentally contributed to the development of astronomy and the understanding of the universe. In a more contemporary context, in 1992, Vietnam held its first legislative elections, a milestone in the country's political history. In this event, all candidates belonged to the Communist Party, except for two independents. This electoral day represented a step towards the consolidation of democracy in Vietnam and the participation of different sectors in political life. However, not all the news on this day has been celebratory. In a tragic incident, on a road near the capital of Guatemala, 28 people died, most of them members of a Mexican ballet, when the bus they were traveling in fell off a cliff. This event reminds us of the importance of road safety and the need to ensure optimal conditions on the roads to prevent tragedies of this kind. On the other hand, in 1997, the IRA (Irish Republican Army) announced a ceasefire in its armed actions, with the aim of promoting the peace process in Northern Ireland. This historic gesture opened the doors to dialogue and marked the beginning of conversations between unionists and republicans, after decades of conflict that left thousands of victims in the region. These events, spanning from political achievements to scientific advances and human tragedies, remind us of the complexity and diversity of history. Each commemorative date invites us to reflect on our past, understand our present, and envision a future in which we can learn from our collective experiences. July 19th, with its commemorations, offers us an opportunity to honor the memory of those who have shaped our path and to continue building a more just and equitable world for all.
