The Minister of Economy and Finance, José Arista, announced today that the Government will allocate a budget of S/ 400 million for the maintenance of 25,000 kilometers of roads throughout the country. This initiative aims to improve traffic flow and boost national economic activity, addressing an urgent need in a country where road infrastructure is vital for development. During his participation on TV Peru, Arista emphasized the importance of keeping communication routes in good condition, pointing out that for the past four years they have not received proper maintenance. This lack of attention has led to deterioration of the road network, compromising user safety and hindering connectivity between different regions of the country. The minister acknowledged that in a country like Peru, with economic limitations, it is not feasible to build new roads at the necessary frequency. Therefore, the strategy focuses on the conservation and preventive maintenance of existing roads to ensure their durability and efficiency over time. In addition to the maintenance of the 25,000 kilometers of roads, the Government plans to build 600 small bridges in various areas of the country. These structures, ranging from 25 to 10 meters in length, will primarily benefit rural and district communities, improving connectivity and facilitating transportation for the population in their daily lives. The financing for these initiatives would come from the supplementary credit of S/ 3,000 million that was requested and approved by the Congress of the Republic last week. This measure is part of the Government's efforts to boost the economy and promote sustainable development through investment in road infrastructure and the promotion of key sectors for the country's economic activity. José Arista highlighted the importance of unlocking the economy and improving efficiency in public management, urging officials to take a proactive role in promoting development. In this sense, investment in road infrastructure maintenance and construction not only has a direct impact on citizens' connectivity and safety but also helps boost the economy and generate employment nationwide. The news of the significant budget allocated for road maintenance in Peru has been received optimistically by various sectors of society, who see this measure as an opportunity to improve the quality of life for the population and enhance the country's economic growth. However, it is expected that efficient use of resources and transparency in project execution will be fundamental aspects to ensure the success of these initiatives. In a context marked by the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic consequences, investment in road infrastructure becomes particularly relevant as a driver of reactivation and development. Maintaining roads and building bridges will not only improve connectivity between regions but also contribute to job creation and boost key productive sectors for the country's economic recovery.
