War

At least two people were seriously injured and two lightly injured in northern Israel on Sunday, following several attacks with anti-tank missiles and rockets from southern Lebanon, amid escalating tensions with the Lebanese Shia militia Hezbollah. The Israeli Army confirmed that a soldier was lightly injured after two anti-tank missiles were launched at the town of Zar'it, near the border with Lebanon. In addition to the soldier's injury, an Israeli citizen suffered minor injuries and an American was seriously injured in the same incident. It is being investigated why two civilians were so close to the border at that time. In parallel, a 28-year-old man is in serious condition after receiving shrapnel wounds in the Lower Galilee area in northern Israel. The attack occurred with around 20 projectiles crossing from Lebanon into the Lower Galilee area, some of which were intercepted by the Israeli air defense. Another alert was activated for a suspicious aerial target in the Ramot Naftali area, which was successfully intercepted. Air raid sirens sounded in various towns in the Upper and Lower Galilee regions in response to the barrage of rockets claimed by Hezbollah. The rocket attacks are likely a response to the death of Hezbollah's air defense commander, Maitham Mustafa Al Ataar, in an Israeli attack in Baalbek, northeast Lebanon. Al Ataar was considered a senior leader of the organization and had been involved in numerous attacks against Israel, as well as in acquiring Iranian weaponry for Hezbollah. This incident adds to a recent Hezbollah attack on Israel, where over 200 rockets and 20 explosive drones were launched along the entire border, in retaliation for the death of Mohamad Nasser, another senior commander of the group, in an Israeli attack in southern Lebanon. The escalation of tensions between the two countries has resulted in at least 515 deaths, mostly on the Lebanese side and among Hezbollah ranks. The exchange of fire between Israel and Lebanon has raised concerns about a possible full-scale war, especially as hostilities have intensified since October. The international community, mainly the US and France, are seeking a diplomatic solution to this growing conflict. Hezbollah has mentioned that if a ceasefire is achieved in Gaza, which will be negotiated in Doha next week, it would imply an immediate calm on Israel's northern border. Amidst this situation, the international community remains vigilant about a potential escalation of violence in the region and diplomatic efforts to find a solution that avoids a major conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
