The party Modern Peru, led by Wilson Aragón, has come forward to deny any type of agreement, pact, or alliance with other political organizations in view of the general elections in 2026. In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 3, Aragón stated that his party has not yet defined any candidacy for the positions of president, senators, deputies, nor the presidential ticket. According to Aragón, the candidates of Modern Peru will be selected through a thorough evaluation of profiles, strictly following the internal regulations of the party through internal elections. He also emphasized that the National Political Commission, chaired by Julia Príncipe Trujillo, will be responsible for evaluating the performance of the coordinators at the regional, provincial, and district levels. In this sense, Aragón warned that any attempt to assume responsibilities that belong solely to the National Political Commission will be reported to the relevant authorities. The leader of Modern Peru reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and internal democracy in the selection of candidates who will represent the party in the upcoming elections. Furthermore, in a call to Peruvians who wish to contribute to the country's development, Aragón invited them to join his party, which recently welcomed businessman Carlos Añaños. It is worth noting that Añaños formalized his affiliation with Modern Peru weeks ago, thus joining the list of members of the organization founded by Wilson Aragón. Julia Príncipe, former prosecutor and a close figure to Añaños, holds the position of president of the National Political Commission of Modern Peru, reinforcing the presence of renowned leaders in the party. The arrival of Añaños and the presence of Príncipe in key positions within the party's structure could influence the direction that Modern Peru will take in the 2026 elections. Amid a political landscape marked by uncertainty and the search for strategic alliances, Modern Peru's stance of remaining independent from other political organizations could raise speculations about its future strategies. However, Aragón and his team seem to be focused on consolidating a solid and coherent party, based on meritocracy and the democratic participation of its members. As the period for defining candidacies and political alliances approaches for the 2026 elections, Modern Peru's position of staying out of previous agreements with other organizations could be both a differentiation strategy and a challenge in an increasingly fragmented political scenario. The question of who will be the candidates representing this party in the electoral contest, as well as its stance towards other political actors, will continue to generate interest and debate in the coming months.
