A senior official of the Islamist group Hamas, Osama Hamdan, has rejected the possibility of progress in talks with Israel regarding a ceasefire in the Gaza region. During a press conference held in Beirut, Hamdan stated that, so far, no significant progress had been made in negotiations with Israel. Despite this, Hamas has expressed willingness to positively consider any proposal leading to a lasting ceasefire and an end to the war in the region. The Palestinian group has shown interest in reaching an agreement that involves the complete withdrawal of Israel from Gaza, a condition that has caused disagreements with Israeli authorities. Mediation efforts by Arab countries, with the backing of the United States, have not yet managed to achieve a ceasefire. While Hamas insists on the need for an agreement that definitively ends the war, Israel has expressed readiness for temporary ceasefires until Hamas' presence in Gaza, where it has been in power since 2007, is eradicated. Osama Hamdan has pointed to the United States as being responsible for pressuring Hamas to accept the conditions proposed by Israel. In this regard, Hamas has stated its willingness to accept any proposal guaranteeing a permanent ceasefire, the complete withdrawal from Gaza, and a hostage exchange agreement involving individuals held by both sides. The escalation of violence in the region has resulted in a tragic toll, with a high number of casualties and the destruction of infrastructure in Gaza. Clashes between Hamas militants and Israeli forces have created a climate of tension and concern in the region, directly impacting the civilian population. Amidst the negotiations, Hamas has requested written guarantees from the United States for a lasting ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza as a requirement to sign a truce proposal supported by the U.S. government, according to Egyptian security sources. Although a phased ceasefire plan has been presented, which includes the gradual release of hostages and the withdrawal of Israeli forces, Hamas has expressed concern over the lack of explicit guarantees regarding the transition between the different stages of the agreement, causing uncertainty in the negotiations. In response to this situation, Egyptian authorities have been in contact with the United States to address Hamas' demands and seek a solution that allows progress in the talks towards a satisfactory agreement for both parties. Meanwhile, the people of Gaza and the region as a whole continue to await a ceasefire that will end the conflict and enable the reconstruction of areas affected by the war.
