Citizen security is a fundamental pillar for development and investment in our country. In Peru, despite significant economic advances in recent decades, security continues to be a pressing concern that affects both citizens and investors. It is crucial to address this issue from a perspective of improving quality of life, as it impacts not only citizens' perception but also the economy. Insecurity is not just a matter of perception: it has real and tangible impacts on the economy. Companies face higher operating costs due to the need to implement additional security measures. Consumers, on the other hand, may be discouraged from visiting certain places, directly affecting commerce and urban life. A study conducted by Ipsos on consumer behavior revealed that 55% of Peruvians avoid going out to shop at night due to security reasons. In this context, it is imperative for the private sector and the government to collaborate closely to create a safer and more conducive environment for investment. From our standpoint, we have taken significant initiatives to ensure that the same level of security is reflected in the vicinity of our headquarters nationwide. To achieve this, we have implemented a security system that includes surveillance cameras, trained security personnel, patrolling in personal electric vehicles, substantial improvement of public lighting, and alert systems. We have even implemented customer transportation in shuttle buses to shopping centers. These efforts have also had a positive impact on the surrounding areas, creating a safer environment, as we understand that security is a determining factor in attracting visitors and ensuring a pleasant and secure shopping experience. However, these efforts will be insufficient if not complemented by an active commitment from the government as a whole. For these initiatives to be sustainable and scalable, strengthening public policies on citizen security is crucial. This involves improving the training and equipment of security forces, as well as reforming the judicial system to ensure proper punishment for crimes. Additionally, it is vital to promote crime prevention programs that involve the community and foster a culture of peace and respect. The private sector is willing to continue investing in security, but we need a regulatory framework that facilitates this. Public-private collaboration is key to addressing insecurity, and it is necessary for authorities to recognize the fundamental role that companies play in this regard. Citizen security must be a national priority. Shopping centers, as meeting points and drivers of the local economy, are a clear example of how this factor influences economic dynamism. It is time for the government and the private sector to redouble efforts to build a safer environment. This will not only benefit companies and consumers but also contribute to the sustained development of the country. Security is not an expense, it is an investment in the future of our nation. With a firm commitment and a shared vision, we can create the necessary conditions for Peru to remain an attractive destination for investments from local businesses, small entrepreneurs, and multinational companies. In conclusion, citizen security is a challenge that requires the active participation of all sectors of society. From our end, we will continue implementing measures in our spaces, but it is essential for the government to strengthen its role and facilitate a conducive environment for these initiatives. Only then can we ensure a prosperous and secure future for all Peruvians.
