People's Soul: The Struggle for Survival Amidst Conflict

The accounts of survivors reflect the trauma and distress experienced daily in Alma al-Shaab. The uncertainty of when the next attack will occur, the constant sound of explosions, and the feeling of living in an eternal state of war have transformed the lives of those who once called this place home. Maria Shaya, a 31-year-old woman who grew up amidst violence and instability, sadly recalls how memories of a childhood marked by conflict contrast with the natural beauty of the environment in which she grew up. Nostalgia for a past of peace and tranquility mixes with the harsh reality of a present marked by violence and destruction.
