Amid the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the city of Rafah, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has raised its voice to denounce the serious situation facing hundreds of thousands of displaced people in the area. According to reports from the organization, the Rafah border crossing remains closed, preventing the arrival of essential supplies for humanitarian activities and hindering the rotation of medical staff in the region. At the Al Mawasi clinic, where MSF provides primary care, the demand for health services has tripled due to the massive influx of displaced people. Over 800,000 individuals have been forced to leave their homes in Rafah and are now living in precarious conditions in makeshift camps in Al Mawasi. The lack of space, supplies, and adequate hygiene conditions further exacerbates the vulnerability of the population. "People continue to live in fear, the population is living in inhumane conditions," says a member of the MSF team at the clinic. Cases of injuries, especially in children, are recurrent. One of the cases that has deeply moved the medical staff is that of Rua, a 6-year-old girl who suffered a head wound from a stray bullet while on the move. The lack of access to timely medical care has put the health and lives of many of the displaced at risk. The story of Bilal, a boy who was injured in the leg during the forced evacuation of his home in Rafah, reflects the tragedy experienced by thousands of people in the region. The precarious living conditions in the camps, where clean water, sanitation, and electricity are scarce, worsen the physical and emotional wounds of those who have had to leave their homes amidst violence and uncertainty. MSF teams work tirelessly to provide medical care and psychological support to a population facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. However, logistical challenges and insecurity in the area complicate assistance efforts and endanger the lives of those dependent on humanitarian aid to survive. In the midst of this heartbreaking situation, MSF's call is clear: an immediate ceasefire is needed to ensure a safe space where quality care can be provided to the displaced population in Rafah. The urgency of the situation demands a rapid and coordinated response from the international community to prevent an even greater humanitarian tragedy in the region. Given the escalation of attacks by Israel in Rafah, it is imperative that humanitarian principles be respected and unrestricted access for humanitarian organizations be guaranteed to provide assistance to those most in need. The international community cannot remain indifferent to the suffering of hundreds of thousands of displaced people in Rafah. It is time to act with solidarity and urgency to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in the region.
