The conflict in the Middle East continues to escalate, with Israel intensifying its attacks in the city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip shortly after learning of the ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The ICJ has demanded that Israel immediately halt its military operation in Rafah, citing a risk of genocide in the area. This ruling was followed by a violent bombardment by the Israeli Army, which has affected streets, homes, and even a hospital in the city. According to reports from the Palestinian news agency Wafa, the bombing by Israeli occupation planes targeted the center of the Shaboura camp in Rafah, resulting in casualties among the citizens. Additionally, the Israeli artillery has attacked the Abu Yoused Al Najjar hospital, vital for medical care for the local residents, as the other local hospital may soon become inoperative due to the damage caused by the attacks. Despite these events, the Israeli Army has not issued any comments on the matter. The ICJ, on the other hand, has also ordered the reopening of the Rafah border crossing, closed since the arrival of Israeli troops, as well as the unhindered entry of human rights agencies into the Gaza Strip to investigate potential war crimes. However, the situation on the ground remains critical, with a death toll of at least 35,800 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and over 80,200 injured since the start of the conflict. Gazan authorities have indicated that these figures could be even higher, considering that there are thousands of people missing among the rubble from the attacks. The escalation of violence in Rafah and the Gaza Strip in general continues to generate international concern, with calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the protection of the civilian population caught in the midst of the conflict. The international community has urged Israel to respect international laws and seek peaceful solutions to resolve the conflicts in the region. Meanwhile, in Rafah and throughout the Gaza Strip, civilians are suffering the devastating consequences of war, with severely damaged healthcare and civilian infrastructure and an increasingly precarious humanitarian situation. Urgent measures must be taken to protect the civilian population and ensure access to humanitarian assistance amid this unprecedented crisis.
