Within the framework of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum, the president of the Foreign Trade Society of Peru (ComexPeru), Alonso Rey, has expressed his concern about the country's economic situation, pointing to a mutual irresponsibility between the Executive Branch and Congress in the generation of populist measures that have severely affected the economy and well-being of Peruvians. Rey has strongly criticized the government for the viability of measures such as the withdrawal of pension fund (AFP) and severance pay (CTS), which he considers as populist decisions that have had a negative impact on private investment and have contributed to the increase of poverty in the country. According to data from ComexPeru, monetary poverty has reached 29%, while multidimensional poverty affects 11.3 million people in the country. The representative of ComexPeru has warned about the serious hunger situation affecting millions of Peruvians, describing it as a genocide that has been exacerbated due to the lack of private investment and government policies implemented since 2021. In this regard, the importance of promoting private investment and generating employment to combat poverty has been emphasized. Rey has stressed the need to deregulate labor laws to promote formal employment and has emphasized the importance of developing sectors such as agriculture and mining to boost the economy and generate decentralized employment. Regarding the management of state-owned enterprises, the state's inefficiency in handling these entities has been criticized, pointing to the need for greater efficiency and transparency in their administration to benefit the population. In relation to the upcoming APEC event to be held in November, the opportunity it represents for Peru in terms of promoting investments and foreign trade has been highlighted. It is expected that the government will take advantage of this opportunity to promote private investment and build confidence among the country's entrepreneurs and exporters. Regarding economic projections for the future, the importance of generating employment, promoting private investment, and improving public safety to boost economic growth and combat poverty in the country has been emphasized. A call has been made to the authorities to take concrete and effective measures to improve the economic and social situation of Peruvians.
