In a recent interview with the newspaper Gestión, Luis Valdez, general secretary of Alliance for Progress (APP), shared his opinion on various current political topics in Peru. Among his most notable statements, Valdez questioned the lack of pronouncement from the president of Congress, Dina Boluarte, and advocated for summoning the Minister of Economy, José Arista, to explain the measures in response to the increase in poverty in the country according to a report from INEI. Valdez also referred to the increase in congressional remuneration approved by the Directing Board led by Alejandro Soto, describing it as an ill-advised decision at a time when monetary poverty has increased in the country. While acknowledging some stability during Soto's tenure at the helm of the Legislature, Valdez noted that it is not the right time to make salary adjustments. Regarding the upcoming election of the Congressional Directing Board, Valdez emphasized the importance of seeking consensus and balance among the different parliamentary groups to ensure institutionalism and governance. He expressed his desire to see the presidency of Congress in the hands of Popular Force, as an opportunity to demonstrate political maturity and overcome past issues. Regarding the allegations of salary cuts to workers, Valdez stated that APP supports all types of investigations and that Congresswoman Magaly Ruiz has submitted her resignation to the party for the duration of the process. Regarding the accusations against the general manager of the regional government of La Libertad, Martín Namay, Valdez expressed his political support and called on the authorities to carry out the necessary investigations. Regarding criticisms of some APP congressmen, Valdez acknowledged the party's political problems and noted that improvements have been made in the selection process. He highlighted the principles of transparency and honesty of César Acuña, president of APP, and reaffirmed the party's stance of not tolerating illegal or irregular behavior. In a context marked by the national political situation, Luis Valdez offered his perspective on various topics of public interest and reaffirmed APP's commitment to transparency, institutionalism, and respect for the law. The statements of the general secretary of Alliance for Progress reflect the importance of ethics and responsibility in the exercise of public office, as well as the need to strengthen democracy and governance in the country.
