The current Minister of Energy and Mines, Rómulo Mucho, is at the center of controversy due to various accusations and questions about his management. In his first months in office, Mucho faces an interpellation in Congress for his alleged connection with the company Pevoex Contratistas, from which he disassociated himself upon assuming his ministerial position. Additionally, the Attorney General's Office has requested preliminary proceedings against him for an alleged crime of incompatible negotiation, related to the hiring of Rosa Sánchez, an official without higher education credentials registered in Sunedu and with whom Mucho has a friendship, according to statements by the minister himself. In response to these accusations, Mucho has defended his actions by arguing that his entire performance has remained within the legal framework and that his intention is to serve the country, reactivating the economy and generating employment. Regarding the use of the official vehicle for Rosa Sánchez, the minister explained that it was done in accordance with a ministry directive and that it has already been discontinued, mentioning that it was on a few occasions. Regarding projects in the mining sector, Mucho has emphasized the importance of reactivating copper production in the country, mentioning that the goal is to reach a target of 3 million tons, although he acknowledged that this would not equal the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which has currently surpassed Peru as the world's second largest copper producer. Regarding the situation of Petro-Perú, the minister mentioned that restructuring is underway to avoid new financial rescues and guarantees, promoting austerity in the entity. Regarding the national economy, Mucho pointed out the need for a more solid growth to combat poverty, emphasizing job creation as the best social program. In the field of natural gas, a massification plan is being worked on and the implementation of pipeline networks is expected soon. Regarding electricity, the gap in electricity supply in certain regions of the country was mentioned, highlighting the importance of equitable electrification. In conclusion, Minister Mucho faces various criticisms and questions in his management, but he stands firm in his position, ensuring that his actions have been in compliance with the law and his commitment is to economic development and job creation in the country. The situation continues to evolve, and it is expected that investigations against him will yield concrete results to clarify the accusations against him.
