Miraflores at its most critical moment in terms of security: a new robbery with crowbars, while Mayor Canales demands more resources and police In recent months, the district of Miraflores has been the scene of a worrying wave of crime characterized by group robberies, a modality that has been increasing since December of last year. On this occasion, the most recent episode took place last Tuesday around 5:30 a.m., when a group of criminals broke into an optician's shop, breaking the glass doors and stealing items valued at S/35,000. This criminal act, which was captured by the security cameras of the establishment, adds to a series of similar robberies that have taken place in different districts of the capital, including San Isidro, Surco, and Lince. However, Miraflores has been the most affected by this new form of criminality, which has been occurring mainly on weekdays and in the early hours of the morning. Faced with this situation, the Mayor of Miraflores, Carlos Canales, has raised his voice of alarm and demanded from the Central Government, the Ministry of the Interior, and the National Police the implementation of a national policy on citizen security that includes a greater police presence, equipment, and budget to effectively combat crime in the area. On the other hand, police sources have pointed out the existence of a gang dedicated exclusively to committing group robberies, with a very organized and coordinated modus operandi. The lack of police presence in critical moments and the insufficient number of officers have been identified as factors contributing to the vulnerability of Miraflores in the face of this wave of crime. Security experts have emphasized the importance of strengthening police intelligence and combating black markets for stolen items, such as cell phones, which represent a significant incentive for criminals. They have also highlighted the need for greater efficiency in the execution of public budgets allocated to citizen security. In this context, the Association for Citizen Security of Peru has warned about the seriousness of the insecurity situation in the country and has urged to improve the quality of the actions of the security guards, as well as to strengthen patrolling and security management in Miraflores. The robbery with crowbars in Miraflores has highlighted the urgent need to take effective measures to protect citizens and ensure their safety in an emblematic district of the capital. The response of the authorities to this critical situation will be key to restoring the population's trust and preventing the incidence of future criminal acts in the area.
